A local Councillor has spoken out regarding water supply in County Waterford.

Sinn Féin Cllr Catherine Burke spoke during this month's Plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council where she questioned who Uisce Éireann are accountable to:

"There's a huge issue in Waterford at the moment and that is the supply of water. I understand that it is the remit of Uisce Éireann, but who are Uisce Éireann accountable to?"

The Comeragh representative stated she has been inundated with water supply issues from people in her constituency.

"I have had representations of people without drinking water, people without showering facilities. I had two emergency service workers out at all hours of the night during the cold weather who came home to no water in their homes and weren't able to shower," Cllr Burke said.

"This is unacceptable in today's day and age. There must be some way that Waterford City and County Council can put forward correspondence to Uisce Éireann to say that the infrastructure needs to be improved."
