It's claimed some doctors are fuelling the country's compensation culture by encouraging patients to take personal injury claims.
An undercover investigation for the Irish Independent found a number are recommending particular solicitor firms, who in turn are referring clients to certain GPs and surgeons, to have their injury reports prepared.
The report found at least seven solicitor firms are sending clients to the same orthopedic surgeon.
Undercover reporter with the paper, Amy Molloy, says she was encouraged to seek compensation when she described whiplash symptoms to some GPs:
"I was able to walk in off the street, say I was a little bit sore and get a whiplash diagnosis. It's something that can't really be proven by scans or MRIs. I said I took one day off work, my neck was a little bit sore, and I was told I'm entitled to ten grand."
