The Irish Cancer Society is urgently seeking volunteer community organisers to bring Daffodil Day to Dungarvan on March 28th, 2025.

The charity is seeking people with good contacts and a strong connection to their local community who would be willing to coordinate fundraising activities.

Community Fundraiser for Munster, Nicola McMahon, told WLR News that volunteerism is key to their success.

"We already have an amazing team of volunteers in Dungarvan," says Nicola.

"Siobhan O'Connell did a fantastic job coordinating it for the past ten years and we were lucky to have her. She has other commitments and has to step down so we need a coordinator so that there is a presence in Dungarvan on Daffodil Day."

Nicola outlined some of the services provided by the Irish Cancer Society in Waterford.

"Around 650 people are diagnosed with cancer in Waterford every year," she explained.

"In 2023, 150 nights of Night Nursing care were provided and there were 243 trips to bring patients to chemotherapy treatments so there is heavy service use in the county."

It is estimated that across Ireland, in excess of 10,000 people volunteer their time on each year to help support Daffodil Day in their community.
