Local Social Democrats councillor Mary Roche has been selected to run in the forthcoming General Election in Waterford.
At a meeting held over Zoom yesterday, Cllr. Roche was nominated by David Kane and selected by Mark Khan.
There were no other candidates to contest the selection convention.
The party itself is relatively new, having only recently contested the Local Elections in Waterford.
Commenting on her selection, Cllr. Roche said having held onto her independence as an Independent candidate for 20 years, she valued it greatly.
However, she added: "I do think if you want to achieve anything in politics you need to be part of a team."
Róisín Shorthall TD supported Cllr. Roche, saying: "I have no doubt Mary will be an excellent candidate. She is a long standing and well regarded councillor in Waterford."
Cllr. Roche will officially launch her campaign in the coming weeks.
