The Chairman of the South East Action Plan For Jobs, Frank O'Regan, has welcomed the announcements of employment growth by Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland client companies based in the South East during 2017.
21,230 people are now employed by companies supported by Enterprise Ireland across the region. That's the highest level of job numbers ever recorded by the agency for the region. During 2017, a total of 1,753 new jobs were created by client companies in the area, representing a net increase of 853 jobs when taking account of job losses.
While there was an increase of 9.2% in the numbers employed in IDA supported companies. It's the highest performing region based on percentage growth from 2016.
Frank O'Regan says the South East saw the biggest percentage growth in IDA jobs. "The improved figures are very encouraging for the region, and are a good step forward in the region’s efforts to close the gap on the better performing regions in the country. The figures represent evidence that the South East is an excellent region to invest and work. The South East Action Plan for Jobs looks forward to carrying this momentum into 2018. There are still challenges to overcome and a lot of work to do but the region is working together to make the South East the first choice location for business, careers, inward investment and visitors."
