The site of a former historic pub and restaurant in Tramore is set to be transformed into a campervan and camping facility.

Rockett's in Westown closed in 2011 and has been vacant since then.

A planning application has been submitted for a facility to accommodate 17 campervans and 4 tent pitches on the Westown site.

Filed in the name of Chris McCann, the application also requests permission for the change of use of the premises from Public House to campsite facilities, including a kitchen and a toilet block.

A letter from Fergus Galvin, Director of Roads, Water and Environmental Services with Waterford City & County states the proposed development would have the full support of the Council.

He states that over the past 3 years, up to 25 campervans are parked overnight in the carparks in Tramore and on the side of the roads.

It is the view of the Council that a well-run campervan site would add to the tourism offerings in the town.

The former Rockett's pub and restaurant was once a popular tourism offering in the region, however, it has been vacant since its closure.

In 2019, the 1.5-acre site went on the market with an asking price of 295,000 euro.

A decision is expected on the proposed development on or before August 20th.
