Councillors have called for an end to the use of cobblelock paving in Dungarvan.
The paving is in place in numerous areas including along Davitt's Quay.
Sinn Fein Councillor Conor McGuinness raised the issue at this month's Dungarvan-Lismore District meeting.
"Can we make a decision that we won't use cobblelock again in this town where there are vehicles?" he asked. "It's not appropriate."
"It's fine in pedestrian areas but not where we have vehicles traversing."
Cllr Thomas Phelan (Labour) also called for repairs on the "very bad section between the castle and The Moorings."
Senior Engineer (Roads) Gabriel Hynes responded, giving an update on works on Davitt's Quay.
"We are doing repair work as required to the cobblestones," he said.
"Tarmac is easier to work with and maintain from an aesthetic point of view and from a shared space point of view but for encouraging pedestrian use, obviously cobblestones are far more preferable."
He added: "It's a balancing act and something we will consider on a case by case basis."
