Boots Waterford to begin private Covid-19 testing from Monday

A booking system has opened today for people in Waterford who want a private coronavirus test.

Boots Ireland will begin Covid-19 PCR testing on Monday in Waterford City.

The test is for individuals who do not display symptoms of the virus, but Boots says that travel and visiting elderly or vulnerable family members are among some of the reasons people might want to take the test.

At present, people travelling to Ireland from amber, red, and grey regions or from outside the EU must restrict their movements for 14 days. Alternatively, people can avail of a private test if they restrict their movements for 5 days.

Heather Feeney, is a pharmacist at Boots Ireland. She said: "It's really important that we're following our government guidelines right now and that is the best way to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

"But if is this is something that interests you or even if you have someone travelling home for Christmas and they want to reduce the time they have to restrict their movement from 14 days to 5, you can get in touch with Boots and we can support you to get a test done."

The in-store testing service will is €139 per test and customers can expect to receive their results the day following their test.
