The Garda Technical Bureau has arrived at the end of Derrycasan lane just outside Kilnavart in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, after the body of a woman was discovered on Saturday night.
Gardaí are now currently combing the road outside the lane for any evidence that may be there.
A man in his 30s has been arrested after the body of a woman in her 50s was discovered at the scene of a "serious incident" at the domestic residence in Co Cavan.
Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation.
The woman’s body has been conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A man (aged in his 60s) conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries remains in a serious but stable condition.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The man in his 30s was arrested at a separate location, and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co Cavan area.
The investigation is being led from an incident room at Cavan Garda Station.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) and Family Liaison Officer (FLO) will be appointed in due course.
Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.
Anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, on Saturday night between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, is asked to provide gardaí with any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings.
