A bench in memory of the late Des Manahan will be unveiled in Waterford today.
Des, who died in 2021, has been described as a legend of the stage locally and was heavily involved with the High Hopes Choir.
His father had been manager at the Theatre Royal, where Des began performing in the 1940s.
At 2pm today a memorial bench will be unveiled outside the Theatre by Waterford Musical Society and the Metropolitan Mayor, Jason Murphy.
The bench is made of solid oak and is nine foot long.
Senieva Magill, Chairperson of Waterford Musical Society, says Des was an honorary and much-loved member.
And speaking to WLR News, she says this will be a fitting tribute to him today.
"We all decided to contribute to getting a bench for Des, and what better location than outside the Theatre Royal where he spent most of his life," she said.
Des was described as both a mentor and a friend by Senieva. She also said he was an inspiring man.
