Aldi is to develop a new store at City Square Shopping Centre in Waterford.

It's set to replace the retailer's existing store at The Glen.

The retailer has signed a lease on a new unit in City Square as part of a €3.8 million investment.

The new store will be double the size of its store in The Glen which has been in operation for 15 years.

According to William Neville Investment Properties, who acquired the City Square Shopping Centre last year, the new store comprises 20,000 square feet "with direct access from the mall and will provide shoppers in the heart of the city with even more value and choice".

All staff at the existing store in The Glen will continue at the new location, in addition to five new roles, which are being created as a result of the expansion.

Aldi says it expects to open the new City Square store in early summer 2024, with The Glen store continuing to operate as normal until the opening day.
