Waterford has almost 27 times more Airbnb rentals available than actual rental properties, according to figures gathered by the Business Post.
The report comes as it appears the government is preparing to introduce new rules for Airbnb owners.
The paper reports that licences could be required for these short-term lets and that the Residential Tenancies Board would take over enforcement of new legislation.
The aim would ultimately be to have more of these properties returned to the full rental market.
In Waterford they found just 14 houses or apartments that were available for renters to live in, while there were 374 properties listed on Airbnb.
Of the Déise's neighbouring counties, Cork had 59 places to rent and 141 on Airbnb, Wexford had 5 and 45, and Kilkenny had 3 and 62.
Of course, these figures come with the caveat that some Airbnb short-term lets, such as smaller cabins, treehouses, and yurts, would not necessarily be suitable for long-term living.
