The festive season was a busy one for Gardaí in Waterford.
Reporting a high volume of call-outs, Sergeant Deirdre O'Neill said that the message going into the New Year is unchanged for victims of domestic violence.
Speaking as part of this week's GardaWatch on WLR, she said, "We want to get the message out, particularly for victims of domestic violence that An Garda Síochána is there 24/7 and that the first port of call can be us."
Nationally, Gardaí receive between 120-150 calls per day to report domestic abuse, while in 2021 it was reported that more than half of all murders in Ireland were as a result of domestic abuse.
To contact Waterford Gardaí, the details are (051) 305 300.
