There was another large increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Waterford yesterday.
28 new cases were announced by the National Health Emergency Team, that's on top of 32 on Friday and 19 the day before. It brings to 79 the number of new cases confirmed over the three days in Waterford.
Waterford's 14-day incidence per 100,000 population is now 130.8, more than double what it was a week ago (56 cases per 100,000). 152 cases have been confirmed in Waterford over the past fortnight.
500 cases (up to 16th October) have now been confirmed in Waterford since the outbreak first began in March. 300 of those cases, 60 per cent, are since the 2nd of September.
Although Waterford is experiencing its highest-ever 14-day incidence rate, it's still well below the national average.
The national rate is now 231.6 per 100,000 people. A record number of new cases were announced yesterday at 1,276.
Cavan has the highest incidence rate in the country at 758.8 followed by Meath on 450.2. Tipperary is the only county in Ireland with a figure below 100 (93.4).
There has been a worrying increase in the number of cases in Wexford. 80 cases were announced yesterday which pushes their 14-day incidence rate to 250.5. 375 cases have been confirmed there over the last fortnight.
