40 to 44 year-olds can register for Covid vaccine from Wednesday

Those aged 40 to 44 will be able to register online for a Covid vaccine on Wednesday.

44-year-olds can register on Wednesday, June 2nd and the portal will open to those a year younger on each subsequent day.

The HSE's Chief Clinical Officer expects the majority of that age group will be vaccinated by the end of June or into July.

Dr Colm Henry says the take up of vaccines to date has been the envy of Europe:

"The uptake of this vaccine has been astonishing. In the over 80s there were 98% of eligible people who've taken it, 70-79-year-olds took it in their droves the takeup was 95%.

"The 60-69 year-olds we were worried about because it was the AstraZeneca vaccine and that was the only vaccine they were being offered, but there was almost a 90% uptake.

"We're seeing levels of uptake, engagement and enthusiasm that is the envy of the rest of Europe," according to the Chief Clinical Offer.
