Waterford City and County Council's Chief Executive is to brief councillors on a proposed Budget for the coming year.
In recent weeks, it was mooted that the council would propose a five percent commercial tax rate on businesses.
Instead, the Chief Executive is proposing an increased rate of three percent.
That's not agreed as of yet, therefore the decision goes to all 32 councillors.
Councillor Eamon Quinlan told Déise Today that councillors will have the final say on the figure.
"It's up to the councillors to decide what the final incarnation of that Budget will be,"
They have their Budget meeting next week where they can use the Chief Executive's as a template and vary the figures on it.
