A jury in Waterford has heard that a man reported his housemate to Gardaí, after discovering sexually explicit material on a computer he had loaned him.

75 year old Oliver O’Grady appeared before Waterford Circuit Court on Thursday- charged with one count of possessing a video of a semi-naked underage girl engaging in a sexual act.

The charge put against O'Grady is contrary to section six of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act.

It is alleged that Mr O'Grady - who denies the charge- held the video in his possession on a date between 14 December 2015 and March 2016, at St Otteran's Place, South Parade, Waterford city.

The court heard yesterday from a former housemate of the accused, who had lived with O'Grady from September 2015 and March 2016.

The former housemate had lent O'Grady a computer, and subsequently a sexually explicit video was discovered in the downloads folder.

The offence can carry a sentence of up to five years.

The trial continues today, and is expected to conclude next week.
