A new proposed bill which will make it an offence to steal or damage life-saving equipment is being met with support.

Local FF City and County Councillor Jason Murphy is welcoming the proposal which means that vandals who destroy lifesaving equipment could face five years in prison and a €50,000 fine.

The new legislation was proposed by Fianna Fáil’s health spokesperson Dr Keith Swanick, which would make it an offence to steal or damage of equipment such as defibrillators and lifebuoys.

Cllr Jason Murphy says it's essential to enact the new bill, because the current legislation doesn't hold enough weight.
