The Postmaster in Dungarvan says he will do everything he can to help the vulnerable and older people in the local community.
Joe O'Riordan says pensioners tend to use the post office a lot.
He told WLR News "We are very cognisant of the people who are on their own, who are vulnerable, so there is a local COVID Dungarvan resources group.
As part of that I have put up a notice in the post office saying that any pensioner or anybody on their own can ring me and I am quite willing to go out and
get stuff for them, run errands for them. We have a couple of other people involved. Councillor Thomas Phelan has also agreed to come on board.
The best thing to do is to do what we can to help the vulnerable people in society.
"The Department of Social Protection have also allowed a relaxation of the rules where somebody who is an agent can collect another persons pension. Before it was five times in six months,
they have extended that now to 15 times in six months. All the people do is come to the Post Office with the form, the pensioner has the form signed, the person who is to collect the payment
should bring their ID with them and we will process the form there and then.
Joe O'Riordan is hopeful that they will be able to remain open throughout.
