Unite are asking all their members working for Momentum to attend a general meeting in the Woodlands Hotel in Waterford City tomorrow
morning at 11.45am.

Cleaning staff at University Hospital Waterford have been on strike since the 25th of February, in a row over changes to their working conditions without consultation by their employer
Momentum.

Their union Unite has written to the Workplace Relations Commission seeking that the strike with service provider Momentum be referred to the Labour Court.

University Hospital Waterford say the on-going picketing is making the delivery of patient care very challenging.

However, they added that management at Momentum are ensuring that the appropriate levels of cleaning services are maintained at the hospital.

Momentum took over the cleaning contract last September, 125 of their workers, who are members of Unite trade union, are striking over changes to their conditions without consultation.

In a statement University Hospital Waterford encouraged the parties directly involved to use the States dispute resolution mechanism's to resolve this dispute.

They say that Hospital Management is actively working to ensure minimal disruption to patient services and apologises for any inconvenience caused by a dispute which they are not party to

Separately, Unite has also written to Solicitors acting for the HSE pointing out its obligations under the HSE Procurement Supplier Charter to ensure that its suppliers comply with their legal and contractual obligations.

In a statement earlier this week  the Regional Co-Ordinating Officer with Richie Browne hit out at the HSE's approach to the dispute saying they are "failing to ensure their service providers behave properly" and "have attempted to blame the very workers who care for patients for a dispute not of their making."

He said he hoped that common sense will now apply and that decency for all Unite members working at UHW will be restored
