World Day of Remembrance For Road Traffic Victims is being marked around the globe today.
It's a day when commemorations take place to remember those injured or killed in road traffic collisions.
In Waterford the event begins at 2.30pm at the Granville Hotel in the city. The Road Safety Authority held an event here last week to remember the 24,390 people killed on Irish roads, since records began.
One of those affected is Waterford woman Christina Donnelly, who's son Brendan was killed by a drunk driver in 2009.
"You don't have to come along alone, you can bring as many friends and as many relatives as you want," she said.
"The most important thing about this service is the exchange of phone numbers and the way that we're able to talk to people and the things we're perhaps no coping with. Grief is in different stages so it's a coming together of families with so much love. There is sadness on the day naturally but the support is immense."
