The McCarthy family is striving to improve efficiency on their farm while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint.
They are achieving this through a combination of advanced genetics, soil fertility enhancement, grassland management, the use of protected urea, and participation in environmental schemes.
By exclusively using artificial insemination, they improve the herd's genetics each year. This results in better weight gain and a reduced age of slaughter, which in turn lowers costs and decreases their carbon footprint.
The McCarthys also focus on soil fertility, which enables them to grow more grass and extend the grazing season. This practice reduces both costs and the farm's carbon footprint. Additionally, they have joined the ACRES scheme to further support their environmental efforts.
