1. HSE boss says cyber attack could cost over €100 million

HSE boss Paul Reid has said it will likely cost over €100 million to deal with the fallout of the cyber attack on Ireland’s health service. Speaking at the HSE’s weekly Covid-19 briefing, he said €100 million is an early estimate but this figure is likely to increase.

2. June vaccine target in doubt after shortfall in deliveries - Donnelly

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has warned difficulties in the supply of Covid-19 vaccines could put in jeopardy the Government’s pledge that 82 per cent of the adult population will have received or been offered a first dose by the end of June.

3. Disposal of human waste at Waterford’s beaches a ‘growing concern’

Fianna Fail Councillor Eddie Mulligan is calling for the reopening of the public toilets at Woodstown, which were closed in 2018 due to anti-social behaviour. He says he has been ‘overwhelmed’ by contacts from local residents who claim campers were seen defecating and urinating in public over the weekend at the popular beach.

4. Noble false widow spider bites can require hospital treatment, study finds

The new study, published in the international medical journal Clinical Toxicology, confirms that some bite victims experience symptoms very similar to the true black widow spiders and some severe cases require hospital admission. Author of the study Listen here to Dr Michel Dugon spoke to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today this morning, as did bite victim Maria Condon.

5. One-match ban proposed for Deise’s Iarlaith Daly

Iarlaith Daly is set to miss Waterford’s trip to Galway on June 6 in the National Hurling League due to suspension. The Lismore defender has been hit with a proposed one-match ban for a category three offence, kicking with minimal force, during the Déise’s win over Limerick last Sunday.
