Fans of the pop star are celebrating as news trickled in that her 13 year conservatorship is coming to an end. The affairs of Spears (39) have been under the control of Jamie Spears since 2008. This situation has been the subject of a high profile legal battle in recent months, with Spears herself describing the situation as abusive. Fans have campaigning for the singer with what has become known as the #FreeBritney movement.
What happens now?
According TMZ, Jamie Spears will work on an orderly transition for his replacement in the conservatorship. Mathew Rosengart, Spears’ new lawyer, welcomed the news of Jamie Spears’ departure and described it as “vindication” for his client.
Statement
Variety Magazine has published a statement from Matthew Rosengart, which said, “I announced in Court on July 14 that, after 13 years of the status quo, it was time for Mr Spears to be suspended or removed as conservator and that my firm and I would move aggressively and expeditiously for that outcome.
“Twelve days later, my firm filed a Petition for Mr Spears’s suspension and removal based on strong, insurmountable legal grounds, which were unequivocally supported by the law and all parties involved, including Jodi Montgomery, Britney Spears, and her medical team.
“We are pleased that Mr Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. It is vindication for Britney. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms Spears and others.”
Fan reaction
Twitter has been awash with reaction since the news broke of Jamie Spears' conservatorship coming to an end. Fans have been reacting with statements like "Britney is finally free." and "Finally, one step closer to #FreeBritney happening."
The singer has yet to make a statement on her own social platforms, however she posted an image on Instagram in typical cryptic form, after the news was announced.
