Although George Harrison and John Lennon passed away in 1980 and 2001, respectively, a brand new Beatles song has just been released , titled "Now and Then".
While Lennon wrote and recorded the demo at his Dakota residence on Central Park West in New York in the 1970s, "the last Beatles song" undoubtedly avails of technological advancements that have allowed it to be released at last – five decades later – "Now and Then" is a genuine Beatles song that pulls you back in time.
The song is a melancholic anthem that becomes even more poignant when you consider that it's John Lennon singing. Thanks to the same wonders of modern technology that allowed Peter Jackson to separate the instrumentation and singing for his 2021 Beatles documentary "Get Back,", Lennon sounds like he's alive and kicking and thirty years old again.
However, Lennon isn't the only Beatle brought back to life in "Now and Then." Harrison is also honoured with a slide guitar solo skillfully performed by McCartney in the manner of his departed comrade, who passed away from lung cancer in 2001. Harrison's guitar parts were recorded in 1995, following Yoko Ono's distribution of the demo to her late husband's remaining bandmates.
