The Walton Institute is the new name for WIT's research centre (formerly TSSG)

Waterford Institute of Technology’s research wing TSSG was recently renamed the Walton Institute for Information and Communication Systems Science.

The awarding of research institute status to TSSG was announced by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris TD during an online ceremony.

Kerry publican Sean O’Mahony has launched a new start-up company, Licensed Premises of Ireland, which he says will significantly reduce overheads for publicans as they prepare to re-open after lockdown. The company  expects to create 10 new jobs across Ireland.

Licensed Premises of Ireland (LPOI) will provide services designed to reduce the cost of mainstream utilities for customers. The initiative will start by targeting everyday expenses that weigh heavily on licensed premises, including merchant services, cash handling, gas and electricity.

Eirgrid's target is that 70% of its electricity will be from renewable sources by 2030 and public opinion is sought on this.
