Cyber-crime is posing a big problem for Irish businesses

Worrying new research by PwC Ireland has highlighted just how serious a problem cyber-crime is in this country. In fact businesses here are experiencing it at twice the rate of global peers, while some companies have lost as much as €4 million in the past few years because of online scams.

But just what is cyber-crime, what can businesses do to prevent it, and if it occurs, how do you act? To answer these questions I was joined on The Hot Desk by Eoghan Linehan, Director of Forensic Services at PwC...

Dooley’s Hotel, a family-owned independent hotel, has recently launched an initiative to encourage visitors to spend in the local retail outlets in Waterford City.The offer is for mid-week bookings where guests can avail of a 10% discount from a large selection of independent stores in the city.

A new degree course in Business Information Systems has been added to the offerings at WIT, and the good news is it's still available to apply for, outside of the CAO application process, until Friday September 25th.

It's being headed up by Dr Aidan Duane, and he joined me in studio on The Hot Desk to discuss his own career journey, as well as to talk about what the BIS degree will entail, and how it's so relevant to industry nowadays..
