Spraoi is Ireland's biggest street theatre festival and runs (as always) this year over the August Bank Holiday weekend, from the 2nd to the 4th. Now in its 27th year, Spraoi continues to attract top class street theatre from around the world, from Ghana to Italy, to the UK, Ireland and Spain. If you wander around Waterford City over the weekend, you'll literally encounter entertainment on every street corner. In addition to this there are food stalls and other attractions dotted at various locations.
The Spraoi Parade
The Parade will kick off at the usual time of 9.30pm from the Johnstown Business Park and finish up at the Clock Tower on the Quay. This year's theme is All at Sea, and after visiting the workshops we can promise you, you're in for a treat! The crew behind the scenes have been busy making a host of magical creations. Straight after the parade you can see the fireworks over the quay (sponsored this year by Blackwater Distillery,) always a brilliant way to finish off your Spraoi weekend.
You can find out everything about the whole weekend here.
Geoff and I were joined in studio by Spraoi Director TV Honan and by Seamus Mason of local tech company SE2, which is partnering all events being presented on The Mall this year.
