Dungarvan native Moe dropped into us on The Big Breakfast Blaa after a whirlwind 24 hours or so, following the announcement that he's to pick up Best Breakthrough Actor at the Newport Beach Film Festival in Southern Californian on April 27th. Ahead of that, he'll be in the SGC Dungarvan on April 24th, along with the director and crew of The Dig, for the movie's first Irish cinema screening.
The Newport Beach Film Festival 2019
The 20th annual festival in Southern California will present the largest celebration of Irish Cinema in North America during its eight day run. Moe Dunford will pick up the award at a reception co-hosted by Variety Magazine. Of the 20 Irish movies to be showcased at the festival, Dunford stars in three; Metal Heart, Rosie and The Dig. "The Dig"
This is Moe's latest movie and his first lead role since Patrick's Day. He tells us that filming was a gruelling, intense but amazing experience. Directed by Andy and Ryan Tohill, The Dig tells the story of a man called Callahan (Dunford,) who's returned home after serving 15 years for murder. His victim's father, Seán searches for the body every day in the bog. Callahan needs to decide whether to fight him or pick up a spade and join the dig. He says they shot the movie over three weeks in a freezing bog in Antrim so it's nice to know he's heading to Southern California soon!
