Jack Fagan fired 1-13 as De La Salle defeated Ballysaggart 2-22 to 1-12 at Fraher Field last night in the first round of the county senior hurling championship.
Fagan and Eddie Meaney found the net in the second half for last year's beaten finalists. Nine players got on the scoresheet over the hour. Thomas Douglas and Reuben Halloran impressed with two points each.
Stephen Bennett struck 1-8 for Saggart in their first outing at senior level. He bulged the top corner of the Salle net in the tenth minute.
De La Salle used a tent, provided by their sponsors, as an outdoor dressing room before and after last night’s game. Indoor GAA facilities remain closed until further notice due to Covid-19.
Manager Brian Phelan Phelan said that it shielded his players from the elements. "One of the lads said it the other night in training. It was handy just in case it was raining, we were expecting big rain. We're not allowed into the stand unfortunately. It gave cover for the lads if it was raining. It came in handy I suppose."
Will they use it again?
"Yeah, if we're allowed!"
