Former Waterford captain Brian Flannery would like to see 2016 hurler of the year Austin Gleeson alongside Jamie Barron at midfield for the Munster semi final against Cork on October 31.
"We've had this constant discussion over recent years about where Austin Gleeson should play. Austin was outstanding for Mount Sion at centre field. Austin Gleeson and Jamie Barron would be very formidable in front of quite a physical and strong half back line. In the absence of Pauric Mahony, does Liam Cahill move Austin Gleeson into the number eleven position? Could we see Kevin Moran return to a half forward berth as well? If I was picking the team, I'd be looking at Austin Gleeson in the middle of the field with Jamie Barron on this occasion."
He thinks that Jack Fagan and Dessie Hutchinson could make their championship debuts up front. Patrick Curran could also have a role to play in attack. "I would be conscious of having a second free taker in the line-up. You'll definitely see Stephen Bennett in the fourteen jersey and I'd be looking at Patrick Curran at fifteen to give you a second free taking option. He's a score getter. Waterford will need to score goals and Patrick gives you that threat inside."
Flannery selected his championship fifteen on Friday's Lár Na Páirce show.
