History will be made today in Páirc Uí Rinn when Colligan line out for the Junior Munster hurling semi-final.
The 2022 county champions head to Leeside this afternoon to face the Cork champions Ballygiblin.
Colligan claimed a first junior county title since 1984 in September when they beat Ballygunner in the decider. A late goal was needed to secure the win in Fraher Field - Johnny Wall dropped a free in around the house and Gavin Whelan forced the ball home. The goalscorer jumped for joy as the final whistle sounded.
The West Waterford club were the only team not named Ballygunner to win a county hurling title across Junior, Intermediate and Senior this year. They have had the right to play in Munster before but unfortunately have not made it to the pitch.
Foot & Mouth and a delayed Waterford championship ended their Munster hopes before they had even begun on two separate occasions.
Today, Colligan face the defending Cork champions who were within a hair's breadth of lifting the All-Ireland title last year also. A single point was between the sides at the end of the hour with plenty of "what if" moments to discuss following the whistle.
While Colligan have been waiting for a competitive hurling match since September 10th, Ballygiblin have been road tested in recent weeks. They were in action against Grangemockler in the quarter-final two weeks ago, beating the Tipp outfit 2.10 t0 0.11.
The action is underway in Páirc Uí Rinn from 1.15 pm.
