It's the last chance saloon for the Waterford ladies footballers this weekend.
Pat Sullivan's team makes the trip to O' Moore Park on Saturday to face Cork with the reward of an All-Ireland quarter-final place on offer if they can topple the Leesiders.
Group D of the senior championship was always going to be a tall order with heavyweights Cork and Donegal to contend with.
Losing to Donegal in their first outing was worrying, but not completely detrimental. Donegal were thankfully pinned back in the group when Shane Ronayne's Cork side kicked 2.12 to outstrip the Forgotten County's 1.10 this past weekend. Cork were always going to be the worrying element of the group as they come fresh off of their Munster final success over Kerry.
Waterford will come to this game knowing that a win is their only option. Lose, and they face a relegation play-off with intermediate football in 2023 a stark possibility. Deise boss Pat Sullivan described the Donegal game as one that got away. A cagey and low-scoring offering from both sides meant that Waterford's missed penalty and two missed frees proved costly. Their 2-point deficit at the final whistle would have left Sullivan wondering what might have been had they taken the chances they had been offered.
While the losing performance needs to be considered, Sullivan offered a positive note in his post-game thoughts, "the most important thing now is to focus on what we did today and what improvements we can get out of today. We have to go into the Cork game with massive belief. We have one more chance to get to a quarter-final and that's one game that we are going to give everything".
