Waterford's Peter Moloney has been named on the Irish Show Jumping team for tonight's Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup at Aachen in Germany.

The Colligan, Dungarvan native gets the call-up following a string of impressive results and is set to partner the stallion Chanti's Champion.

Shane Sweetnam, Darragh Kenny and Cian O’Connor are the other members of the Irish team.

Brian Hennessy from Horse Sport Ireland says it's one of the most prestigious Nations Cup on the annual show jumping calendar.

"It will attract up to 350,000 spectators over the course of this week."

He says it's fantastic news for Peter Moloney

"He's had a superb season so far and he's been named by team manager Rodrigo Pessoa on the Irish team for tonight's Nations Cup which gets underway just after 6.30pm Irish time."

Brian Hennessy says it's hugely significant considering we're very close to the next month's Aga Khan at the Dublin Horse Show.

"All eyes will be on that team selection for the Aga Khan.

"Peter's performances so far this year have put him right in contention for these major competitions.

"It's a very, very important year for Irish show jumping with the European Championships coming up where Olympic qualification for the Irish team is the main goal.

"Peter has certainly hit form at the right time."
