A 6th-year student at Newtown School in Waterford City has been selected as the first nominee for the 2019 Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year.
17-year-old Lucca Allen from Shanagarry, Co. Cork is currently leading the South East Asian Formula 4 series.
He holds a narrow points advantage heading into the final rounds of the championships.
Lucca Allen aims to step up to Formula 3 for 2020 with the ultimate target of reaching Formula 1.

He started his racing career in karts in 2011 at the age of eight.
