Waterford have won their first championship game in three years.

The hard working display by Liam Cahill’s side earned them a place in the Munster final

Stephen Bennett shot 12 points, Callum Lyons  got 1-2, while All-Stars, Jamie Barron, Tadgh De Burca and Austin Gleeson were back to their best for The Deise.

Wind assisted Waterford were 15 -12 up at the break, despite shooting 14 wides.

It was a first half contained 51 shots at the post.

Stephen Bennett struck six frees for Waterford while Austin Gleeson, and Dessie Hutchinson got two each.

Three minutes into the second half, Stephen Bennett sent Callum Lyons clear and he drilled the ball to the back of the Cork net.

Another Bennett free put the Deise 8 points up.

Three Seamus Harnedy points for Cork left five in it  at the second water break.

The Deise weren’t to be denied however, even though Patrick Horgan buried an injury time free to the back of the net for Cork

A late Patrick Curran point, sealed the victory for the Deise.

Its Waterford’s first championship win in 1175 days
