Waterford will face an away tie against Limerick in next Tuesday's Munster MHC Quarter-Final following last night's 14 point defeat to Clare in Cusack Park.
It was a flat performance from the Dèise as the home side dominated from the first whistle and they held a 0-9 to 0-2 lead at the break, Waterford failed to score from play in that opening half.
The game was put to bed when Banner corner forward Cian Neylon netted ten minutes into the 2nd-half as he ended with 1-5, full forward Oisìn Whelan also proved a handful as he registered 0-7 (5 frees).
Conor Tobin netted a late goal for Waterford but it proved to be a mere consolation on a difficult night for the visitors as it ended in Ennis, Clare 1-22 Waterford 1-8.
Speaking after last night's defeat, Dèise boss Shane Ahearne told WLR Sport his charges are capable of turning things around...
"Our job now is to get to a position where we will beat Limerick next Tuesday night.
"We always knew with the two groups of three that it was always going to come down to a knockout semi-final or a knockout quarter-final.
"We were beaten by Tipperary, we've now been well beaten by Clare, so it's now just up to us to move on and beat Limerick - it just has to be done," he said.
In the next stage of the championship, Clare will play Kerry at home while Waterford will travel to Limerick for next Tuesday's Quarter-Finals.
