Waterford earned their first Munster minor football win since 2014 at Fraher Field last night as they came back from six points down to pip Clare 2-7 to 1-9. Two late goals from midfielder DJ Melia, including a last minute penalty, gave the hosts a surprise victory. Wing forward Tom Dalton also kicked three points from play in that second half fightback.

It wasn't enough to secure a place in the Phase 1 final however as Clare will meet Tipperary on May 7.

The second half was delayed by an hour as an ambulance arrived on the field to take Clare defender Matthew Reidy away to hospital. He suffered a nasty facial injury in an accidental collision before the break.

The Banner led 1-7 to 0-4 after 48 minutes but Melia's double blast denied them a third win of the campaign.

Winning manager Tom Guiry was proud of how his troops rallied in the second half. "The lads really dug in for the last ten minutes. For a lot of the game things weren't going right for us but we stuck with the game plan, kept digging away and came through in the end. You could see the excitement on the field at the very end, it was mighty!"
