The cancelled minor ladies All-Ireland series has become a bigger talking point this week after petitions were started by both the Waterford and Dublin squads. The petitions online have garnered over 10,000 signatures to date.
The Waterford squad representatives were in studio for 'On The Ball with Nigel Kelly' this week and they have called for people to support their cause by signing and sharing the petition.
The boys competition is set to continue with draws being made this week for the resumption post covid. Comparisons are being made between the girls and boys games with claims of unfairness being leveled. The U17 championship is still to be played.
Former Waterford footballer Michelle Ryan spoke to WLR Sport earlier in the week and expressed her concern around the series cancellation - stating that the fact that girls of this age have a high rate of drop out for sport means that some of them may never kick a ball for Waterford again.
Earlier in the week the LGFA said that they were supporting club football and that they were in the very early stages of planning for next year.
