It was Ephie Fitzgerald's first competitive game in charge of the Dèise but it was his native county that prevailed by 1-18 to 1-9 on a chilly evening.
Brian Hurley scored 1-6 for the home side with Daniel Dineen slotting over 4 from play.
Cork led 1-9 to 0-3 at the break
Darragh Corcoran netted Waterford's goal just before the 2nd-half water break, the St. Saviour's man ended as top scorer for the visitors with 1-3 while Brickey Rangers teenager Tom O' Connell kicked 3 points on his senior debut...
Waterford boss Ephie Fitzgerald was delighted with the effort of his players in his first game in charge.
The Deise didn't field against Clare in their opening round due to Covid cases in the camp, but Ephie said there were plenty of positives to be taken from the display.
