Waterford FC will take a break from league duties this afternoon as they begin their FAI Cup campiagn with an away tie against Skerries FC
The Blues will be hoping to return to winning ways following three league defeats in a row at the hands of Shamrock Rovers, Limerick and last week's loss to champions, Cork City
Speaking ahead of this afternoon's tie against Skerries Town, manager Alan Reynolds said: "We want a good cup run. People might see we’re playing a non-League of Ireland team but we won’t be underestimating them. They’ve got to the first round on merit, they've seen how we play and we’ll expect them to have a go at us.
"We’re not taking them lightly and we’ll be approaching it as we do for every game. We’ve a really competitive squad so the competition for places is strong and we’ll utilise that this weekend."
Opponents Skerries Town are one of 12 teams who came through the FAI Senior Cup qualifying round. They play their football in the Intermediate section of the Leinster Senior League and are preparing for the start of their league season on August 19th. The side, currently managed by Alan Sweeney, have beaten League of Ireland opposition in the shape of Monaghan United in the competition in recent years.
Kick-off is at 3pm, Matt Keane will have updates across the afternoon here on WLR.
