Waterford FC has denied rumours that management team Kevin Sheedy and Mike Newell have left the club.

It is understood that a row this morning at training led to the duo walking off the training ground.

However, a spokesperson for the club has categorically denied that they have resigned.

The pair were appointed last December.

The latest reporting comes off the back of last Friday's speculation over the goalkeeper selection with Paul Martin starting in place of Brian Murphy. While Oscar Brennan was missing from the side having suffered a facial injury in training. Rumours indicated that a training ground bust-up had taken place, but the club have denied this.

Assistant coach Mike Newell was given his second red card of the season during Tuesday's away trip with St Pats.

Waterford FC academy head Mike Geoghegan had told WLR Sport that he has not been asked to take charge of the team for Saturdays match with Longford Town at the RSC.

Elsewhere, Declan Devine has left his position as Derry City manager.

The club say his departure is "by mutual consent" - with the club currently propping up the table.

Derry have failed to win any of their six games so far this season and the Candystripes have wished Devine well for the future.
