Danny Searle's Waterford FC defeated The Green Herons, 5-2 in their first pre-season friendly match in Dubai.

The fixture took place at the JA Sports Centre yesterday, two days after the Blues arrived in the United Arab Emirates.

They are taking part in a week-long pre-season training camp and have one more friendly game before they return home on Saturday (January 28th).

The Blues took the lead after just a minute against the Green Herons yesterday, thanks to an own goal, and the lead was doubled 17 minutes later by Roland Idowu.

As Waterford dominated the opening half, goal number three soon followed with Connor Parsons beating both his man and the keeper from an acute angle.

After the half-time break, Wassim Aouachria made it four by getting his first of the game from inside the 18-yard box.

The final goal for the Blues came thanks to Giles Phillips header 15 minutes from time, with an expert delivery from Idowu.

Green Herons did manage to get on the score-sheet twice in the second half but it wasn't enough to help them overcome a dominant Blues side.

Waterford will now face another sister club, Fleetwood United, on Friday.

That game takes place at the Jebel Ali Resort and Sports Complex in Dubai, kicking off at 4.30pm Irish-time.

Meanwhile, the club has also just unveiled the new home shirt for 2023:

The Blues' opening game of the First Division is against Wexford away on February 17th and WLR will bring you full live commentary from that game, with thanks to McConnell's Toyota, Waterford.
