The Waterford FC management team and squad have been temporarily laid off.
A letter was sent to all employees of the club saying the board had decided to take the action with immediate effect.
It was signed by General Manager Jack Power who said with the current situation and continuing effect of COVID-19,
the club has been hit hard financially. Their last game was played ten weeks ago.
He said they have continued to make payments to all staff over these last few months, but had to make this decision
for the survival of the club.
Jack Power advised employees they could apply for the COVID 19 unemployment payment.
He assured them the decision had not been taken lightly and they hope as a club they can restore financial and secure stability and get back to playing football.
Meanwhile Clubs will hold more talks with the FAI this week over potentially playing matches behind closed doors.
Waterford FC operations manager Tony Burke said they were totally against that idea for various reasons, including the health and safety of players, staff and volunteers.
