Waterford FC were crowned the Under 19 All-Ireland League champions in Terryland Park last night and as a result they will play in the Under 19 European Champions League next season.
Alex Phelan put the Blues in front after ten minutes when he finished off a wonderful pass from Niall O'Keeffe. Galway equalised from the penalty spot on 67 minutes after Reece Murphy had fouled Francely Lomboto. Joshua Keane-Quinlivan was the player who found the net from the 12 yards spot. Waterford regained the lead when Darragh Power headed home a 79th minute corner-kick taken by Danny Reynolds. Alex Phelan scored his second goal of the game on 88 minutes following a storming run down the right flank.
The Blues captain Dean Beresford was presented with the cup following the full time whistle in front of the large travelling band of Waterford supporters. The majority of the squad will be eligible to play in the European Champions League next season. Gary Hunt, the Blues manager and his assistant Craig ``Rocky'' Maher celebrated with their players following the presentation and Gary described their acheivment as incredible.
