Waterford's Shamie McDonagh is competiting for Team Ireland at the European Under-22 Championships today.
The 18-year-old St Paul's boxer is part of a strong Irish squad of 9 men and 9 women.
The tournament is being hosted by the Croatian Boxing Federation until the 24th of this month.
Light welterweight, Shamie is in the ring at approximately 6pm Irish time this evening against Turkish opposition.
St Paul's and Irish team coach, Lynne O'Shea has told WLR Sport he's ready for the challenge:
"There are 26 in his weight division and he's boxing Kerem Ozmen.
"He's got a tricky fight today but Shamie himself is a fantastic boxer and if he raises the bar the way he did in the Under-22 Irish championships, please God he'll pull off a win."
Lynne says it's great to have Shamie involved at this level:
"This is Shamie's first Under-22 Championships. He's only 18 so he's on the younger side of it.
"... The start of this year were the Under-22 National Championships and they rolled on for over five weeks. Just after that then he got the call to go up to the High Performance Centre, to the Institute of Sport.
"He's been training away up there and doing his bit down with the club as well.
"So he's pretty geared up for this. He's ready for it. He's nice and relaxed now today and it's fantastic to see."
Light middleweight, Darragh Gilroy, is the next member of Team Ireland in action on Sunday.
He will take on Hungary’s Istvan Gerzsenyi on Bout 7, also in Ring B’s evening session.
