"It's no surprise to us" - Dean Walsh hits 100 goal mark for Villa

Villa manager Conor Coad has paid tribute to star striker Dean Walsh after he chipped in with four goals in the Munster Champions' Trophy Final.

Walsh found the net four times in Sunday's 6-2 success against Cork's Grattan United as Villa became the first Waterford club ever to win the trophy.

Coad says that the 27-year-old is an example to the teammates in how he carries himself week in week out.

"It's no surprise to us because we've seen him operating and playing at that level and the ability that he has. He's just been a regular on the score sheet, and he works extremely hard as well. It's great to have someone of his quality in this side and for him to get four goals in the game. He had a couple of chances as well early doors and he's just such a live threat all the time. It's really good to see that he's got that level of desire to want to continue to play at the level that he's playing atin terms of the level of performance and the attitude and the approach that he's taken to it. As long as he continues that, because he's still young - he still has a lot of football ahead of him, the goals won't be drying up anytime soon because he's got a huge amount of quality."

Sunday's tally of four brought Walsh's goal tally for Villa to a remarkable 103 goals in 90 games - and his manager says he is simply a model of consistency.

"One of the lads on the coaching staff, Stephen Cleere, looks after a lot of our statistics as a team and it's something that he flagged to our attention a few weeks ago that he was coming up on 100 goals since he came back to us and this is his fourth season back with us now. I think it's 103 that he's got - before the weekend, he was on 99. He wasn't just happy with 100, he went well over that mark and I think it's probably about 90 games altogether. He's well over a goal-to-game ratio, which again just goes to show the consistency that he's been operating at and the level that he has been. It's brilliant to have someone of his quality and he's a really good one in the dressing room as well in terms of being so well-respected and liked by all the lads."
