Waterford lost out to defending champions Limerick in the opening round of the Munster U-20 hurling Championship in Fraher Field this afternoon.
The home side will rue several goal chances which went abegging as Josh O'Reilly stood tall to deny Jack Twomey and Conor Keane in each half.
Waterford finished the opening half strongly with three scores in a row courtesy of Joe Booth, Charlie Treen, and a Patrick Fitzgerald free (the Ballygunner ace with 7 points in the 1st half, six coming from placed balls).
Con Hayes netted on ten minutes as he gave Cian Troy no chance as the visitors held a two-point lead at the break (1-9 to 0-10).
Patrick Fitzgerald netted a goal from a 21-metre free late on as the Ballygunner ace ended the afternoon with 1-11 (1-10 from frees)
1-18 to 1-14 the full-time score.
It's an away tie against Cork up next for Gary O'Keeffe's charges on Wednesday evening at 7 pm.
