Fraher Field stages a double header this evening with the opening two play-off games in the County Senior hurling Championship.

First-up at 6 pm is the clash of Ballyduff Upper and Roanmore, with the Sky Blues fancied to reach the last eight having ran Ballygunner close in last year's Quarter-Final.

The Reds failed to win a game in the group stages but will be keen to put in a solid performance this evening.

Co. Board Treasurer and Ballyduff Upper team secretary John Jackson says there's a good healthy rivalry between both clubs

"Roanmore have been impressive throughout the championship, Ballyduff are going into this game with no win after three outings.

"There's great rivalry between Ballyduff and Roanmore going back into the 80s and 90s in County Finals, a good friendly rivalry.

"It will be close, going on known form, Roadmore should come out on top. Ballyduff are battlers and they will be there and will give it their all to secure a place and stay out of the relegation play-off.

That'll be followed by the meeting of Tallow and Passage at 7:30 pm

Passage reached the semi-finals last season where they were well beaten by champions Ballygunner, while Tallow suffered a heavy defeat to Lismore in their final group game

Tallow are always hard to beat, and the Bridesiders will be confident of reaching the last eight

Passage are under the stewardship of former Kilkenny goalkeeper Michael Walsh, and he told WLR Sport they had a lot of players away during the group stages

"It's been a hugely difficult couple of months.

"It is what it is, you get on with it as best you can.

"Like any team, you would like to have the majority of your players available to pick from, unfortunately for one reason or another that didn't happen with us during the summer.

"They're all back now, we'll see where it takes us."

Michael says Tallow will bring a big challenge

They're a very good team, very well organised, lots of pace throughout the team, they're very strong.

"We will have it all to do, we're coming in on the back of a very heavy defeat, confidence has taken a knock.

"We will be hoping that championships will bring out the best in players and we'll be ready for the fight."
