Ferrybanks Thomas Barr returned from injury this past week to make a triumphant return to the National Senior Athletics Championships in Santry.
The Ferrybank hurdler easily won his semifinal on Saturday and yesterday in windy conditions yesterday he once again cruised to victory in the final of the 400m hurdles in 50.37 seconds. The result means he retains his national title and makes it ten titles in the process.
"Very, very proud and also it's given me the reminder that I needed. I'm in this game a long time at this stage but I'm really happy with that. Making it a double-digits [number of] titles. I've had a really haphazard preparation the last couple of weeks, I really haven't been great. I had a bit of an achilles niggle which held me back from training. I had to scrap all my early and mid-season competitions which is a pity because I was in savage shape, but I can only build from where I am now and I'm looking forward to putting that behind me and moving forward" said Barr.
While West Waterford's Kate Veale retained her 5000 meters walk title outclassing the field in a time of 23.31.12 to claim her 7th title in the event.
Elsewhere in Santry both Jake Bagge and Lucy Holmes featured in the finals of their respective 800 metres but ultimately failed to medal, while Emily O Mahony brought home a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.
